Changes in the EMS coverage for Columbia County
occured when the Philmont Rescue Squad disbanded late in 2010 and their District is now covered by Greenport Rescue
Squad. A rig is housed in Philmont, covered by GRS personnel. On December 31,2010, the Lebanon Valley Rescue Squad
ceased operation and the Chatham Rescue Squad is supplying personnel and equipment for this area.
I will still
show the rigs from these two Squads, as "Ex" units below.
COLUMBIA COUNTY RESCUE SQUADS OR AMBULANCE CORPS.
LISTED ALPHABETICALLY.
In Columbia County the term "rescue squad" was used by the earlier ambulance services.
The original ambulance services were established by local Fire Departments whose members carried American First Aid cards.
As time marched on, most of the "squads" became independent from the FD allowing membership from a wider geographical
area. The've become BLS, ALS paramedic ambulance providers. So for this section, the term "RESCUE SQUAD"
pertains to ambulance providers, in the county, regardless of medical level.....
